Why should I worry about parabens...?
Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives (preservatives give longer shelf life) in the skin care, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. People with normal skin, parabens are for the most part a non-irritating and nonsensitizing. Parabens however can cause skin irritation and contact dermatitis and rosacea in individuals with paraben allergies. Most of us now spend a lot of time understand the damage that foods and other substances have on our body. The Skin is largest organ and we should really look at what possible damage can be done by products that absorb through the skin. Health concerns about parabens are primarily focused on their potential to act like estrogen compounds in the body. Substances which behave like estrogens are known as estrogenic compounds, and they can pose some health risks, especially when used in high volumes. Estrogens primarily impacts the endocrine system, potentially creating an increased cancer risk. People who are worried about parabens argue that their estrogenic traits make them too dangerous to use in food, skin care , cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Should I avoid parabens...? Its a personal choice..However at Belenos therapy we do offer quality paraben free skin care which is mild and gentle and free from synthetic colours and fragrances. If you would like to know more about Parabens or any other artificial substances in your skin care you can contact us or take up some further reading at FDA. |
